"I started volunteering at Eastbourne in Spring 2023 as a way to get back into work following a long period of illness. I wanted an opportunity where I could learn new things and actively learn about different areas of society that I wasn’t familiar with. Being part of a team and the office environment was also appealing to me.
I realised that this type of work was suited to me and I was able to increase my volunteering hours as I grew fitted and healthier. When a job opportunity arose, it was the perfect opportunity to do something that I really enjoyed as a paid member of staff!
Being a debt advisor is challenging, but my previous experience as a volunteer has meant that I have all the skills needed to thrive in this role."

The importance of our volunteers
As an independent charity, Citizens Advice Eastbourne relies on grants and donations to provide our service to clients free of charge.
Right now the demand for our help is greater than ever. Grants do not cover all our expenses and are often restricted. This means they can only be used for a certain amount of time, a particular client group or a specific project. We are therefore very grateful for any donations and legacies, whatever the size.
